We're excited to offer Concussion Baseline Testing for all the athletes who are returning to sports with things opening up!

Concussions have gotten a lot of attention over the last few years, and when someone gets a head injury it is important to have a baseline test. Why? If you don't have a baseline test there is no way to tell whether your symptoms are normal, or from the concussion.

For example, your balance, memory, delayed memory, and concentration can all be affected by a concussion. No one gets a perfect score on these tests, so it is important to know where you or your child are on a regular day. Here are the general steps of a head injury and recovery:

Step 0 - Get a baseline test

- Injury Occurs -

Step 1 - Get an assessment - if there is no baseline test this makes it very difficult to analyze where the individual might be.

Step 2 - Make a plan.

Step 3 - Implement plan.

By getting a baseline test you can ensure that you or your child has the necessary information for the health professional to make an informed decision regarding return to play. It’s also important to mention there is an inherent difference between boys and girls and men and women with concussion recovery. All the guidelines right now are very male-centric focused, but it depends on when the woman/girl is hit in her menstrual cycle and what kid of activity she was doing. For instance a girl/woman hit in their high hormone phase and / or doing high intensity work the recovery is going to be much longer. It’s important to have the proper guidance with return to sport and we can provide that here at Restorative Sports Therapy.
